IT’S DECEMBER, AND IT’S TIME TO GET INTO THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT!
Getting inspired into creating holiday spirit and decorating your home can be a daunting task… also getting stuck into the habit of unpacking last year’s boxes and doing it all over again, where it can sometimes feel like Groundhog Day!
CHOOSING A HOLIDAY COLOUR PALETTE
So why not try something different, and a design scheme that not only rings in the festive cheer but allows you to enjoy your décor year-round for a variety of holidays and occasions!
Why not consider taking a different approach for 2019, utilizing a soft pastel colour scheme which can be used to create an unconventional festive touch for the holidays that gives flexibility for year-round decorating!
In this case, the home had some soft blue and pink pastels in it already! Though, whatever your preferred colour accent might be, why not take it, and run with it in a new, fun and festive way!

Principal Designers Phyllis Lui & Aleem Kassam of KALU INTERIORS located in Vancouver Canada complimented this homes existing soft pastel décor further with white fur (faux of course) and feather ornaments in the colour scheme.
CREATING HOLIDAY MAGIC
Selecting these items that were not your typical red and green Christmas decorations had an exceptional result that was both whimsical and magical. Being cognitive of a variety of textures and patterns, we specifically sought-out soft, lush and airy décor that could also play-off of our whimsical theme. When it comes to your holiday décor, always think in groupings, odds are best!

THE CHRISTMAS TREE
For your crowning jewel, the Christmas Tree, why stop at one when you can layer with three!? One of our favourite things to do is to have the tree fit in with the existing décor of the room so that it is complimentary to the room and not the odd item out, that just comes out once a year!
Instead of shoving it into a corner, bring into the room, or between two, allowing you to enjoy it from a variety of spaces, and views! By also tackling this focal as a grouping set within the space, you suddenly create a layered connection of the feature to the rest of the space.

DESIGNER TRICK: FLOCK YOUR TREE!
By following this tip, you’ll have less to do in terms of decorating. The odd gaps you’re typically left to fill, are now filled along with some beautifully snow-tipped ends!
This will also brighten-up your tree and space (literally), even during the day when the twinkling lights might be off.
Opting to flock the staircase garland continued the theme throughout the home, bringing the element of the outdoors-in!

CHALLENGE YOURSELF INTO BEING UNCONVENTIONAL
We also suggest challenging yourself with unconventional placement of holiday décor. Think beyond your staircase, tree or fireplace mantle. Why not tackle other areas you may not typically expect your festive touches to find themselves!
For instance, try hanging ornaments from your chandelier or grouping items on your coffee table. Also why not fill an empty corner in your foyer with some decorative cheer!
Creating holiday spirit is not about filling-up your home, but selecting clear areas for unexpected impact. Grouping them with décor, versus dispersing all the items throughout which might provide a sparse and detached feel.

The Holidays are a time to create holiday spirit, celebrate, dress and light your home.
It’s a time to share the cheer with friends and family. So why not have fun with it, and throw convention back into the cold!
